FAQs
What is your dispatch time for in stock items?
Due to the fact both James and Claire have full time jobs, and run Ashen Wensleydales in addition to this, we usually quote 5-7 working days for dispatch. However, it is entirely possible that we will dispatch your order quicker than this.
Will you combine orders for cheaper shipping?
Absolutely! If you place more than one order with us, then we will automatically combine orders where possible. If you do not want us to do this, then we ask that you write us a note specifying. When we ship your order, if there is overcharge on the shipping, we will refund you the excess.
Which countries do you ship to?
We are happy to ship items to any country we can do so legally. This means that the vast majority of the world is perfectly fine including the USA, Canada, New Zealand, Australia etc. The exception is that we do not ship or allow purchases from any country within the EU due to the safety laws that were bought into place which now prevent us from sending shipments.
I want to order from outside the UK, will I be charged tariffs/import duty?
This will very much depend on which country you are ordering from. In any instance of tariffs and import duty, the buyer is responsible for all fees/tariffs/duties, which will be charged to you when your package arrives at customs, not by us.
Every country has different thresholds and regulations for import duty, so we strongly recommend that you check these rules for your country so that you can properly estimate what the charges may be.
If you are ordering from the USA, then the tariffs imposed on UK exports are (to our current and best knowledge) not imposed for orders under $800 for items produced in the UK (all of our fibre). It becomes more complicated with Lendrum and Majacraft parts as their origin is Canada and New Zealand respectively. Currently we are not certain what the regulation is in this instance and what you may have to pay. We strongly suggest that you do your own research on this to find out what tariffs you may have to pay. The information we have on this is to our best knowledge, but you are ultimately responsible for working out what the tariffs may be.
For all international shipments, the actual value of all goods will be quoted on the customs declaration.
What is your returns policy?
You can read our full returns policy in the policies section of the shop, however, as a general rule, we do not accept returns of items based on buyer regret. If you have an issue with the item/s you ordered, then please contact us in the first instance. For items with product faults, we will contact the relevant supplier and your parts will either be fixed or replaced.
I notice that for some of your products, rather than a 'sold out' or 'add to cart' button there is an enquiry form. How does this work and why is it there?
There are certain items which we do not keep as stock items. This may be for a number of reasons. For some items, they may be heavily customisable (i.e. lendrum saxony parts), may be special order from the supplier (i.e. valkyrie viking combs), or may not be products that are regularly in high demand.
In these instances, the form is there to allow you to contact us directly to express your interest in buying these items. The enquiry form comes straight to us, so when this happens we then contact you to find out your exact requirements, and then will either place a special order with the supplier for your item/s or will ensure it is added to the very next order.
If you place a special order or add my items to your next order, how long will it take for my items to arrive?
The genuine answer to this question is, it depends. Depending on whether the supplier has immediate stock or whether the stock has to be made specifically is one factor (lendrum saxony parts for example). Likewise, some suppliers make given products on a seasonal schedule, i.e in the case of majacraft wheels. Due to these factors, its difficult to give a truly accurate timeframe, but rest assured, as soon as your item/s come in stock, we will notify you by email.
How will I place the order for my special order or custom item/s when they come in stock?
In this instance, we will make a reserved listing for you. You should notice at the top of our home page there is a section marked as "reserved". This is specifically for these kinds of orders. The order will be shown with a breakdown of the item/s you have ordered and a total price for the whole order. Shipping will be added when you check out.
If an item is showing as out of stock, will you be getting more stock at any point?
The answer to this question is that it depends. In most cases the answer is yes, but occasionally it might be a no. In this instance, if you wish to purchase an out of stock item, its best to email us to see if we have the item on order or not. In the instance that we do not, we can add it to an order if its an item you wish to buy and create you a custom listing when the item comes in.
I know that you also breed coloured Wensleydale sheep, do you sell raw fleeces?
Yes! We do sell raw fleeces. We tend to shear in mid-late June as a rough estimate. After this, we assess each fleece individually and those which make our grade for handspinning are then heavily skirted, weighed, photographed and offered for sale. This process takes time so fleeces will typically show on the shop at the end of June or start of July. Some years, we may not have fleeces if they do not make the grade, but rest assured any we have will be on the "raw fleece" section under the "fibre" category.
